WORTHING

Worthing in the parish of Broadwater, two miles distant.
This village is close to the sea, and is now much frequented in the summer
season by people of fashion for bathing, on account of the fine sands,
which are esteemed the best in the kingdom. A fishery is carried on here
in the Spring for mackerel, and in the fall for herrings. It has a fair
on July 20, 21, and 22. Here is an elegant seat belonging to the Right Hon.
the Earl of Warwick; and many good houses for lodgings finished, and
some building. It has likewise three good inns, viz. Seahorse, New Inn,
and Anchor, for the accomodation of Strangers.

The population of Worthing and Broadwater-Census 1866-8,200, taken by thr Board of Health. That of the village of Broadwater is about 600.

The Rateable Value of Property Assessed to the Poor Rate, showing the increase in the Rateable Value in the last 10 years.
